She looks surprisingly complacent here for a barefooted schoolgirl. I would have expected her to hop and skip and juggle small stones or tamarind-pits on her way. The mischievous smile is waster, or else. And, is her left eye closed because she is smiling or for some other reason?

smile is probably because she saw something very new, and yet, so trival that it can only be appreciated during a leisurely amble... may be a squirrel breaking its head over how to crack-open a nut...

I saw this girl on the roads of Bangalore, returning from school, running ahead of her friend..here she stopped to look back for her friend before going around a corner. It was a split-second in the afternoon sun...a magic moment.

it's the same bangalore...you're just living in an alternate reality ;) I don't know my way around the city very well...but i can tell you it was near the area called Hanumanthanagar - if i'm not wrong - it has a couple of nice temples and is one of those pockets that reflect the age of a city...
